Red Cross Blood Drive

What does it mean to save a life and become a superhero?  Some may think it’s wearing a cape and running into a burning building or jumping into a lake or river risking your own life to save a helpless victim.  Those are bold ways to save a life and may be the image you have in your mind.  But there are many ways to be a superhero and save a life that do not require a cape. One simple way is to donate blood.

According to the American Red Cross, someone in America needs blood every two seconds.  It’s essential of surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries.  Whether a patient receives whole blood, red cells, platelets or plasma, this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation.  Is that person you?

The need for donated blood is ongoing.  Did you know that donated red blood cells must be used within 42 days or less?  Platelets must be used within just 5 days.

Be a superhero and help us answer the call. South Valley Lodge is hosting their first Red Cross Blood Drive on Saturday, August 20, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at our home, the Leverton Masonic Hall in Morgan Hill.  We are looking for volunteers to help with the event and, most importantly, we are looking for people wanting to save a life by donating.

Are you available to donate? If so, you can register on our website at www.SouthVallyLodge187.com.  There you will find a simple Red Cross link on the front page that allows you to schedule your blood donation appointment with us. Or you call us at the Hall at 408-782-2198 and we’ll help you make an appointment.

Don’t think that someone else will donate blood.  Only 3% of age-eligible people donate blood yearly.  The Masons of the South Valley hope to raise that number for the people that need a superhero in their lives.
